According to this timeless tale buried deep in the heart of Irish folklore, long before the city bustled with life, there lived a mighty king known as the Fisher King. He ruled his kingdom with wisdom and courage, drawing respect from his subjects and adversaries alike. The king was an avid fisherman, and the River Corrib was his favorite fishing spot. One day, while he was fishing on the banks of the river, he pulled up a Golden Trout. A mesmerizing sight to behold, the Golden Trout possessed mystical powers and could grant three wishes to the one who caught it. Overwhelmed, the king wished for his territory’s prosperity, the health of his subjects, and eternal happiness for his family. As promised, the Golden Trout fulfilled the three wishes. Even after the king passed away, his legacy lived on, and till date, Galwegians credit their city’s prosperity and their high spirits to the benevolent Fisher King and the magical Golden Trout. Every year, the locals organize a grand feast by the River Corrib to honor the Fisher King and his Golden Trout safeguarding Galway’s prosperity.
