Finn McCool and the Creation of Giant’s Causeway

In the mystic land of Emerald Isle, there once roamed a mighty giant named Finn McCool. He was the most fearsome creature of his kind, tales of his giants size and unparalleled strength were echoed across the Irish Sea and into the heart of Scotland, where lived another giant named Benandonner. Their rivalry turned into a feud when Benandonner challenged Finn to a fight, bragging that he was the most formidable of all giants. However, there was a major problem, there was no boat big enough for them to cross the sea. Unnerved, Finn took it upon himself to build a causeway to Scotland, hurling huge pillars of rock into the sea to form a path. Despite his stature and might, the task was arduous, draining him of his energy. As he completed his work, he turned back towards his home, utterly exhausted, barely managing to stay awake, he sprawled himself along the coastline and fell into a deep sleep. As the news of causeway’s completion reached Benandonner, he stormed across it, ready for the battle. Seeing the humongous McCool lying on the shore, Benandonner presumed it was Finn’s child, and if a baby was of such gigantic size, the father would indeed be invincible. Petrified by the thought, he fled back to Scotland, ripping up the causeway in fear so Finn would not pursue him. Thus, all that remains today of that epic causeway is at the northeastern coast of Ireland and some pieces on the Scottish isles. This legendary tale symbolizes the wonderful formation known as the Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that exists to tell the tale of the mighty Finn McCool.
